It used to be so rare to find a cosmetics line that catered to women of color..and even when you did, how did you know it was specific to you when the images didn’t look like you? Today, I am thrilled to have the team from Beautie Brownie on the blog. I’ve been following these ladies on Instagram for some time now and I’m loving their movement.
Where did the concept of Beautie Brownie come from and what does it mean?
The concept got started because women would stop us all the time asking “what color is that” or they would say “that color looks gorgeous on your skin but I could never pull that off”. Majority of the time, these women were our same complexion.
We came up with the name Beautie Brownie because we wanted something that was cute but something any woman at any age could identify with. When we are out and about and we run across a beautiful brown-dark skin woman, we are like “She’s a Beautie Brownie”!
What products do you offer?
Right now, we offer lipsticks. Check out our lipstick line at www.beautiebrownie.com
Do you think there is a void in the beauty market for products specifically for women of color?
Various brands are now carrying different shades of brown in concealers and foundation but you can’t tell because the branding is not catered toward women of color. There isn’t much of a variety when you see the images that these brands display. That’s why our focus is to make brown beauty the image of our branding, when a potential customer walks pass a cosmetic counter you want them to feel like they can see there selves.
