Brown Girl Tea is a new series on the blog where I discuss some of my life lessons, mistakes as well as triumphs. What does this have to do with weddings you ask? Well, life happens..even when you are planning a wedding. These posts will help you deal with issues and things you may be going through during the wedding planning process and after. It is my hope that my experiences and thoughts will offer you all some support & inspiration. And because I’m such a lover of words it will always be accompanied by a quote to give you motivation. This is the not so pretty of the wedding planning process where we dig deeper into love & life….I call it Brown Girl Tea because I don’t like coffee lol. But if you prefer, you may grab yourself some coffee or tea and read on.
Recently, I was faced with a layoff at my corporate america job. I felt all kinds of emotions as this is the first time in my life that I’ve been without a ‘real’ job. But, even then I knew this was a set up for something bigger for me and I decided to take a chance on myself. Here are some things that helped me:
I had a plan: I knew exactly what I wanted to do and had some steps to get there. You see, it’s not just about dreaming the dream, but it’s also about taking action. Part of my plan is growing the Chic Brown Bride movement and maneuvering through the business of blogging.
I read daily motivation: I continued to surround myself with people and things that were not only positive but, that had something in common with where I was going. Whether it’s reading a scripture daily or quotes it’s important to feed your mind.
Silenced the naysayers: Listen everyone is not for seeing you flourish. There will be people who don’t quite understand what you are about to do, whether it’s a new career move or starting your own business; they will call you crazy and even look at you like you are crazy. Keep going.
I cut back on spending: This may seem like the most impossible thing to do while planning a wedding. However, it can be done. Think about what’s really important here. Having the best wedding or the best marriage? Do you really need to give out wedding favors or can you sacrifice that for the sake of your budget?
These are just a few things that helped me during this trying time. Hope you enjoyed the first post in the new Brown Girl Tea series. Stay tuned next week for more motivation.
